Silver and Bronze Napkin Ring

Bronze Japanese Export Silver Napkin Ring; cr 1870. Of seated Samurai and Lords; three
elevated, three larger; all w/inlaid gold and silver headgear, swords, buckles & assorted
boulders & other mixed metals. This is not ‘raised’ work but each figure being cast separately is
applied to the surface. No damage. No separation.
This is an early fine and rare piece of export ware made for the foreign market and probably
exported from Yokohoma, (the original treaty port opened by the Americans, in the person of
Commodore Perry) in 1854 w/the blessings of the Shogunate. Apparently unmarked w/ rubbed
silver wash on the interior of the ring.
